Historial of the Vendée
The Historial de la Vendée is located in Lucs on Boulogne, 23kms from the campsite. The Historial is a museum presenting the history of the Vendée from prehistory to the 21st century. The museum is unusual in its design, the building was built to be integrate in the natural environment in which it is located. The museum covers an area of 8000 m², with nearly 20 000 objects of which 3000 are exposed.
Heritage preservation
The main motivation for the creation of this museum is the preservation of the Vendée heritage. The goal is to recall the history of the department through time. This project aims to create an educational and interactive place to allow the perpetuity of the history of the Vendée in a fun way.
The museum is composed of several rooms
The museum is composed of several rooms to immerse you in history with:
- geology,
- prehistory,
- Antiquity,
- the Medieval Millennium,
- the modern age,
- the Vendée War,
- the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century,
- Auditorium with showcase of 20th and 21st century objects
You will also find in the Historial de la Vendée “The children’s museum”, spread over 280m² children from 2 to 7 years can discover, through the decorations, objects and activities, the history of the Vendée so more playful.
An exhibition hall is present in the Historial offering exhibitions on topics of great diversity (society, history, fine arts, science & technology).
